The elevated road and metro corridor will have a single pillar system with separate pillars at the street average. The elevated road will be on the first level and the ground for the Chennai Metro Rail on the second level.


The railway will have a third level at three major junctions, including Perungudi and Thoraipakam, and the elevated road on the third level will have entry and exit ramps and facilities on the first level. In the median, a single pier with a width of 250 metres is proposed.


On the two-storey high corridor, the passage height will be 5.5 metres, and at certain points, both decks will temporarily be one.


The highway will start at SRP Junction and end at Siruseri Junction, with entry and exit ramps at Perungudi Junction, Thoraipakkam, Sholinganallur Junction and Siruseri Junction. It will have a 12-foot bridge, scoping facilities, escalators, lighting, security and a 24x7 power supply.


The proposal for the highway envisages a traffic volume of 101.78 cars per hour, which is twice the capacity of the road.


Infrastructure


The physical and social infrastructure has been designed to accommodate some of the best hospitals, educational institutions, shopping malls and leisure facilities in OMR.


To reduce congestion, the state government is planning some infrastructure projects. The government of Tamil Nadu and the Chennai Metropolitan Authority are planning several projects in OMR, including the development of a new IT park and a business centre.
